This is the very cute Amy and Michelle. I've been taking pictures of them since they where small babies. It is always a treat photographing them, we literally play doll. Marie their Mom, loves dressing them up and doing their hair. These pictures are for a Miss Photogenic competition and I must say, both of them are very photogenic! Lizelle & Simon {E-Session}

What a beautiful couple! I spent some time with Lizelle and Simon, taking their engagement photos and getting to know them better. This was my absolute last session before I had my beautiful little girl Ella, on the 25th of April. Lizelle and Simon was so patient with me, walking slow and with a belly in the way, but we still managed to have a lot of fun. Their wedding will be the first for this season and I am overly excited not only because they have stunning props and a beautiful venue, but they are beautiful and a lot of fun to be around, so excited!

This little family to me, can be compared to Brangelina, gorgeous parents and a gorgeous little boy, and mom is expecting another baby boy. I have no doubt that he is going to be just as cute as his brother Juhvan. I remember Nelichea from primary school and Jacques went to high-school with me, but we reunited during Nelichea's first maternity shoot. One of my favorite shoots ever. You can view some of the pics here. Again I was so excited when they asked me to do a mini family and maternity session during her stork party, where I had the best lemon-meringue ever! Hope you enjoy your pregnancy Nelichea, and thanx for supporting me throughout mine, I have my little bundle of love and she's 5 days old today!

Grant & Michelle {Wedding}

What a magnificent experience it was to meet and photograph Grant and his beautiful Michelle. They both have such interesting families. Grant comes from a family, who owns a very famous and very successful sweet factory, hence all the beautiful sweets at the wedding. And yup they taste just as good as they look. And Michelle was brought up by two wonderful parents whom had a bit of a physical challenge. It is amazing to me that they taught Michelle sign language and brought her up as a normal child without being able to ever hear her or speak to her. They did an awesome job because she is one of the nicest people I have ever met! When Michelle's Dad did his speech at the reception, it was all interpreted for everyone not being able to understand, and half the hall were in tears. Amazing! The best thing about her parents, their eyes truly say what they feel, and all I could see in their eyes the whole day, was love. How proud they where of their new son and their beautiful daughter.

And I had to blog this picture, because Grant and Michelle got married at my favorite venue Morrells, and they seem to love the best wedding coordinator in the world, just as much as I do. Thank you again Phern for being so awesome!

Lin-Marie {Senior Session}

Meet the stunning Lin-Marie. She has the most beautiful heart! And I am sure she doesn't realize how beautiful she really is. I did a portrait session for her, her Mom gave it to her as a birthday gift, which I think is awesome for any teenager. I would love to do more of these types of shoots. The Lovebird edition! I just loved the way these two had fun in front of the camera! They where so comfortable with each other, very in love and so comfortable with me. We had an awesome venue which added a lot of character to the photos, but with Willem and Dene's vibrant personalities, it was a walk in the park.

Elouise & Johan was such an easy going couple, another reason why their pictures turned out so natural and fun! They where very keen on my idea of going to Olympia Park swimming pool, we all know this pool because we grew up and went to school not very far from here. Elouise had the perfect little outfits that complimented the venue and their photos. When I first started to edit their photos I couldn't stop, it was like a lucky packet filled with surprises, and I promise you, this was all done at one venue and done in one sitting. Their fun personalities made it so easy to take their pictures and I'm stoked with the results! Enjoy your little bundle of love!

First of all I would like to thank Shanna and David for being such great clients! They where so laid back, and they thoroughly enjoyed their wedding day without fretting about small things. Not that anything went wrong, their wedding was planned and coordinated by David's lovely sister Carly. Every detail in place and perfect. I must say, I think she has a talent for events! Shana and David's family and friends where so nice, and their venue was absolutely gorgeous. Their wedding day was celebrated at the beautiful Long Meadow Restaurant. I've always wanted to do a blog with Black and White images only, but you really need a lot of strong images that work with black and white. At last it was possible to tell the story in black and white only. Except for decor, I couldn't do that in black and white because there is no point. Thank you Carly and Shanna for choosing me to capture this day, it was stunning!

This is my very good friends Ampie and Cassandra. Many of my friends and family ask me what it is like to do a close friend or relative's wedding. They are usually concerned with me not enjoying myself because I need to take the photographs. I have done 3 of my best friends weddings so far, and this is what I tell them. When I photograph a close friends wedding, I'm in the fortunate position to be part of the whole day, I'm there before they get dressed, I'm there when they cry, I'm there before they enter the chapel, I am with them most of the time and as a guest I might only have gotten 10% of that time with them. I definitely enjoy myself, in fact, every joke made, and every tear touches me even more because I know the people. Capturing these special moments have more significance. Not to mention, I know the person, their reactions and I can focus on them as individuals on a deeper level. Cassandra made me part of her whole planning experience so I knew so much about the wedding, that it would have been impossible to miss anything. Where I usually spend 2 hours max with my brides before the wedding, I get to be part of the whole experience when I photograph friends. I have to add, I am a little more nervous in the beginning, because there is a little more pressure on me, but as soon as I have my first favorite shot, they just keep coming! I honestly enjoyed Ampie and Cassandra's wedding so much! Thank you for being such great friends and for making me so much a part of your wedding day. I'm glad to announce two of my best girlfriends are getting married in the near future, and they already booked me to do their photo's, yay!

The Smith Family

Meet the Smith family, well technically their not all Smith's but used to be or married into. Wow, not even a hale storm could stop this shoot from happening! It almost didn't happen, kids had to be dragged into the house and cars had to be rushed to shelter, but in the end it turned out beautifully. This is what I always tell my clients, its part of the experience, and you don't need a perfect venue to have beautiful photos, its the people that make the photos. We did however have the perfect venue, with the perfect lighting in the end. The wet pavements added to the effect of nice photos and in the future I might ask my clients to wet the pavements before shoots, because it just looks so stunning, lol! Thank you to all the Smith's, I really enjoyed you guys, I loved your taste in clothes and I think you all looked superb! As I said before beauty comes from within and I think I got to capture that! A true blessing! We where all very excited to meet little Mira. At the time of the shoot she was less than 3 weeks old, and so gorgeous! I can tell that she's going to be a natural in front of the camera one day, because it was so easy to photograph her. I still remember my first shoot I did for the Janse van Vuurens, little Jolan was 1 year old, so cute! And I am happy to still be able to photograph them, after all we are archiving memories and this time will always be remembered! Enjoy Christien!

This beautiful couple, expecting their first baby, was such a delight to me. We immediately clicked, and we where chatting like we've known each other for ages. Maybe because we have so much in common, young married couple,we are also expecting our first baby etc. Helmien and I could chat about all the pregnancy symptoms, and actually have compassion for each other, because believe me it is a challenge! Yesterday I got the chance to meet their little bundle of joy, Ruben. He is absolutely gorgeous and I can honestly not wait to edit and post his first photo shoot. Busisiwe & Matela {Wedding- Lesotho}

Some of you will remember Busi and Matela's engagement session we did in Cape Town (view here). Their wedding was held in their home country Lesotho. They had the perfect day, weather wise and everything else was out of the books. I so enjoyed their family and friends, they made me feel right at home, and as I entered Busi's family home, I realised we had a lot in common. I just love the fact that she and her family are in love with God! You can sense it a mile away. When entering their home, there was traditional Lesotho musicians outside playing beautiful music, the kind that just makes you feel good! At the reception we enjoyed lovely traditional food, and I literally licked my fingers off! It was fun to share their special day, and on top of it all I got to meet the King of Lesotho, so honored! Thank you guys, for making me part of this very special experience, there are loads more pictures for you to enjoy, I just had to stop myself otherwise my blog would burn out!

The amazing thing about my job is, I get to meet a lot of people and I love people! My favorite part is actually taking the pictures and spending time with people. I also meet new clients through every person I photograph, needless to say 90% of my work comes from referrals. Thank you to everyone that has referred me in the past I really do appreciate it! 2011 What a year!

2011 has been an amazing year for me! Not only did I reach 1 new years resolution, but two and with one I got blessed three times, wow! I had a dream of visiting the US, to do a course with one of my favorite photographers from the states and to attend the WPPI. In February I had the privilege to do all of this. You can view images from Las vegas, Grand Canyon, California Family shoot and Hollywood. My workshop with Amelia & Justin Lyon. My business goal was to get my work published in a publication and this is where I got blessed thrice. Firstly one of my weddings got published in the South African bridal magazine "Wedding Inspirations" and another will be in their March 2012 edition. Very excited to say that the images on this post where published in the US bridal magazine Munaluchi Bridal, I was stoked! And last but not least we have been blessed to have our first little baby in April 2012 how exciting! For all of this I have to thank my God, he blessed me with the talent, the awesome clients and opened all the doors for me!

Meet all the stunningly cute kids that go to iPlay playgroup. I absolutely fell in love with each and every one. Its amazing how different their personalities are and that you can like all of them so much! I'm starting to think children photography is my destiny, don't say it to loud because the brides will hunt me down! LOL! A Royal Fairytale {Mabo & Sadiq}

There is so much you can learn from a couple when the speeches start! During Mabohlale's speech she mentioned that Sadiq is a prince from Ghana, and this just perfected their beautiful fairytale. Here is how it started: Mabohlale and Sadiq met at the University of Cape Town in 2003. Mabohlale remembers the first day she laid eyes on Sadiq :’ He walked into a lecture, with an extremely confident, laissez faire air about him. She immediately drawn to him and knew that this meant trouble.’ A game of Cat and Mouse ensued and two years later, after Cupid had worn down their resistance to the inevitable, the couple began their passionate romance. It was intended to be an experimental fling, but alas eight years later , Mabohlale and Sadiq wed. They exchanged personalised vows at Intundle game lodge on 15 October, pledging their love, devotion, faith and honor as they joined their lives together

Meet the beautiful Busisiwe and her knight-in-shining-armour Matela. They live in Cape Town, Busi studies medicine at Stellenbosch and Matela is in the I.T industry. I met them at the gorgeous Dark Choclate Guesthouse in Durbanville, where we started our little road trip through the vineyards and to Camps Bay for their Engagement session. After we spent some time on the beach at Camps Bay they spoilt me for lunch by the seaside. Their wedding will be in Lesotho in December and my hubby and I will be shooting their special day.

Rolene & Morne {Wedding}

Rolene literally faught for me to do her wedding pictures. I already had a booking for her wedding date, but she kept asking and believing that somehow I would do her photographs. I must say this was a bit of an ego boost to me. After realising her determination, and shooting their engagement session (view it here) I knew I had to try my best to help. My booking got cancelled and I had an opening. By this stage I thought she would already have another photographer booked, but when I got a call from her thanking me for the engagement session photos, she popped the question, and tada here are their beautiful wedding pictures! They both really enjoyed the day, it was so well organised, a beautiful reception on a boat sailing down the Vaal river. And the vintage twist was off course her own initiative, with her elegant shoes and so, so different dress reflecting her style and personality. I absolutely adore the two of them and their cute daughter. Their friends and family immediately made me feel at home. Can you believe during our photo session I forgot her bouquet under the bridge and it was gone when we returned, I felt so bad, but her mom quickly grabbed a few roses from the table and created a unique bouquet for her to throw. Not even that could steal Rolene's happiness. She never once stopped smiling!

Nolene & Hercules {Wedding}

Frans & Ivanke

Meet the beautiful Ivanke and her charming hubby Frans. I have actually known them both for a while. Ivanke booked me to do her Matric Farewell photos when I just started my business and there I met Frans who got me in contact with his sister to shoot her wedding. Since then I have done multiple weddings and functions where these two where present and since the first time I met them I was wondering if I would one day photograph their wedding. When Ivanke booked me I was so excited because I knew it was going to be a beautiful wedding with a lot of fun loving people. Very comforting. And I was right, the venue, the people, the decor and the company was out of this world. Frans told me on the wedding day, a story that I told him at Ivanke's Matric Farewell about me and my hubby also high school sweethearts, and he said it stuck to him, he knew that one day he would marry his high school sweetheart. I was so flattered that he had remembered the story, my response: " I was wondering if I would do your wedding one day." So we both had a feeling that they would last forever. I hope you have a fairy-tale life together! And I hope to one day photograph your grandchildren.

Tim & Adele { Mexican affair}

Todays post is so exciting, it was my first Mexican themed wedding and it was absolutely divine! Tim and Adele is such a beautiful, totally in love couple, they adore each other! I so loved to photograph them and their friends and family, everybody was so laid back, relaxed and full of joy! But I am sure you will see that in their pictures. They both must I add, are not only beautiful on the outside, but on the inside. Their hearts literally shine outwards and you love being in their company because of that. The Du Randt Family

Meet the Du Randt family, well, they don't all have the same surname, some where married and others born with another surname, but basically they all have the same grandfather and that is why I call all of them the Du Randts. They decided to do something really special for their Grandad. He is a collector of old cars and he absolutely adores his grandchildren. For his birthday they all got together and did a photo shoot of all the grandchildren and great grandchildren, and I had a garage the size of a tennis court filled with vintage cars to choose from. Any photographers dream! It was really an awesome day, everyone looked beautiful and we had a lot of fun. Something I will never forget! I knew from the moment I started that these images where going to be beautiful, and I had a ball taking them. From now on, my whole perspective of family photography will change. Something such as an old car, can really bring out the character of people. I'm excited about all my future family sessions, I have a lot up my sleeve. Thank you to everyone involved (parents as well) for making this happen, and especially Cindy, this plan was in her head a year ago and we finally made it happen!

The Scheepers Family

To me shooting families are the most fun, I really enjoy it, not just because of the nice people, but because of the children's response to me and their parents. I must say, most kids at the same age are very similar in reactions and responses. I just adored the Scheepers family, but how could you not! They invited me into their home for a few hours to capture them ( taking photos of kids are usually best for me at their home because they are more comfortable) I felt at home almost instantly and it felt like I've known them before. Their beautiful home made a stunning backdrop especially with mom (Anette) being a photographer herself and decorating her home with striking red walls, she had so many nice ideas! I loved it! Please invite me again!

Darryl & Paula Part 3

Ok the last and final part of Darryl and Paula's wedding was the most fun and the funniest! They said their vows in the bush after a short game drive. I have to add that one of the rangers saved the day by couriering the forgotten bouquet from the one lodge to the point of vows, in time! On his noble steed a red honda motorbike, making an entrance with a jump and a lot of dust! After the vows and refreshments whilst enjoying sunset, we returned to the lodge where we where taken on a boat to the boma where the big party was at. I had so much fun taking the shots of the dance floor because everyone was so funny with their props!

Darryl & Paula Bush celebration {Part 2}

On day two we arrived at the stunning Entabeni Lodge in Mokgopong. We settled in at the lodge grabbed our coats and jumped onto the game viewers to enjoy a three hour game drive, where we saw loads of animals including rhino and lions. At sunset we stopped for some refreshments and to take a group shot of everybody. After the game drive we arrived at a camp where tables where set, dinner was ready and a large bon-fire kept us cosy.

The next morning we got up at 6:30, grabbed some coffee and off we went on an amazing morning drive. I have to add, my stunning assistant and second shooter Mandy supported me a lot, I was a bit nauseous from morning sickness and she kept me calm, hydrated and had snacks handy whenever I needed it. Also, Paula and Darryl as well as all the other guests where very nice to me, at first I wanted to keep it secret because the client is paying me to do a job and I wanted to do it well. Without all the support I think it would have been much harder.

Darryl & Paula Wedding Celebration {Part 1}

This lovely couple had a proper wedding celebration spreading over three days. I waited six months to do this wedding and the date couldn't arrive faster. We started their celebration off on the 8th of September at Paula's aunts lovely home in Bryanston. They had a very intimate family gathering for their ceremony and later their guests arrived for their cocktail style reception. Here they had a beautiful peacock joining in for the speeches praising the speaker every time they finished a sentence, it was hilarious! The Harmse Family

This is the beautiful, close-nit Harmse family. They overflow with smiles and kindness! I promise you, from the first moment that I set foot in their home, I was treated like a long term friend. I felt so at home that I could almost imagine myself kicking off my shoes and watching my favorite series in their lounge. The girls Anlu and Mikela instantly made friends with me and enjoyed the fun photo session with me. I must ad my oldest brother Dolf (view photos of him here) was there to entertain the girls and assist me, and they enjoyed him sooooo much, but then again it is Dolf, who wouldn't enjoy his company. One thing that stood out for me about this family, was love, not only are they open to love each other, but they really love others. It just shines out of them. I cannot wait to go visit them again!

The Van Wyk Family

I have recently found out that I am pregnant, and now suddenly my perspective on photographing babies have changed. I'm much more alert about things the moms do. I think I'm trying to learn as much as I can! And believe me there are no better pro's than Neil and Leani. They had their little one in May 2011. Jude is such a blessing to this little family, they thoroughly enjoy her, and so did I with the photos. She is so friendly and love-able!

Landi Maternity

Landi and I have been friends for a very long time, sometimes closer than others but only because of work and other obligations. She has always been the same, she's fun and bubbly and you always feel good around her. The last photos I took of her and Riaan was at their wedding 5 years ago!. Wow time flies! I was so excited the day she told me she was pregnant, because this was honestly a huge blessing and a dream come true for her. Baby Mieke will be here soon and we can all not wait to meet her. Dolf Matric Farewell

This is my handsome brother Dolf on the day of his Matric Farewell. He is a sportsman, and adventurer someone that loves the outdoors, and lucky him he is good at everything he does. He's such a talented sportsman, alway at the top, he knows what it feels like to win, not something I am very familiar with! Thats why I'm so proud of him. Next year he is doing multiple courses in ab sailing, scuba diving and more. I think he is going to love it. Love you lots!

Business Venture 2011

Ok so I have mentioned this in one of my previous blogs, but it's very relevant to todays post. A few months ago I went to a business seminar at our church WCC and realised I don't know what my 10 year goal for my business is. Funny how quick things change! I have a brand new business venture, fashion for photographers! Yup photographers can also be stylish, no need for waistcoats and camel pants with a large backpack on your back! I'm importing these and other (coming soon) photography bags from across the globe and man are they exciting! Wrapping this bag around your shoulders with pockets especially for batteries and flash cards, makes life easier at a shoot, and off course you look good as well! Winter Family Session {Paulo Family}

It has taken me and the Paulo Family about a year to complete this project, we captured images of them in each season and we have now completed the last season; winter. Excited about putting their book together but I am definitely going to miss photographing them! In each season I could see a change in each child, they actually do grow that fast! I feel so fortunate that I could be part of this project, and really enjoyed it! Now I am looking forward to designing their album, might blog a few pages in the future. Salt of the earth is what you call these two. Being around them is so comfortable and pleasant I wish I could do this shoot again! Juan & Irmila - Winter Wedding

Meet the lovely Juan and Irmila. They are very good friends of my husband and me, as a matter of fact we've known Juan since school, I can still remember how he used to entertain us during school break by jumping over chairs with his BMX bicycle or by playing drums. This is very significant, because I think they have one of the most romantic love at first sight stories ever! Juan never stopped drumming after school and so ended up playing professionally. During one of their shows Irmila and her friends where in the crowd, and Irmila instantly fell in love with Juan's drumming ability and charm. After the show her friends dared her to go introduce herself to Juan, and so she did! She handed him a piece of paper with her contact details, and Juan astonished and blown away by her beauty, was speechless. The rest is history!

Road Trip - Route 66

I know it's been four months since we where in the USA, but I only now had the time to edit the pics and blog about it. I have to share them even if it's a bit late. After exploring L.A (check it out here and here) we decided to do a road trip to Las Vegas via the Grand Canyon. Tanya was our driver for most of the road, but Etienne took over after a while. Not knowing what was going to happen next. Whilst coming off the one highway which had a 75 mile per hour speed limit, we drove onto a highway with a 65 mile/h speed limit. Yup we where going 10 miles over the speed limit without noticing, trying to be good tourists, not knowing we are over the limit, we see a state trooper, chasing us, yup, like in the movies! We immediately stop and try to be friendly, but boy are the state troopers scary! I had such a freight. Oh well that is part of our memories of our awesome trip!

Yup Etienne tricked us into junk food agaain!

In every town you drive past, you see the American flag. So patriotic.

Arriving at the Grand Canyon we booked into a log hotel called El Tovar. Where they served lovely ht chocolate.

In the morning we got up very early to see the sun rise over the Canyon. I've never been so cold in my life, couldn't feel my fingers.

Kiekie Experience - Lyonshop Las Vegas

What can I say, this was one of my dreams, doing a workshop with one of my favorite photographers in the world. So while I was attending the WPPI in Las Vegas in February (sorry for the late post, rather late than never) I booked a spot at the Lyonshop. Amelia and her hubby Justin presented their workshop at Palms Place Hotel on 19th Feb 2011. Class was in one of the penthouses, filled with attendees from across the globe. I was the only South African, but others came from as far as Australia. Amelia and Justin arranged for two beautiful models whom they styled and positioned to get their awesome shots which would later be edited to show us exactly how clever the Lyon duo is with their art. All my shots where taken behind the scenes, the real ones photographed by the Lyons can be viewed here. This workshop was filled with loads of fun and laughter, but the info I brought back regarding business, is the most valuable. This workshop completely changed my life, time is no longer an issue, fun is what it is all about! Thank you Amelia and Justin, hopefully my post would influence many of our South African photogs to attend your Lyonshop in the future, you never know maybe one day in South Africa. ;)

One of the best things when traveling abroad is the money, always so different! Had to take this shot whilst I packed my awesome camera bag for the workshop. On my way to the hotel, I took a few shots of the scenery and things around Vegas.

My notes that I've been studying ever since. Excuse the writing.

And off course the food was delicious!

The Van der Merwe's- Family Shoot

I was so excited to meet up with Cindy and her family. I’ve known her since school and have always looked up to her. Her daughter befriended me and allowed me to spend a few hours with her whilst I documented all that I could about her. She showed me her toys, dolls house and her dogs. It was so much fun that I realized that I have to do this more often. I need to do more family shoots, they really are therapeutic and you learn so much from kids. A few weeks back our church hosted a business people’s breakfast, where we got to meet other business people and learn from each other. Our Pastor asked us where do we see ourselves in 10 years. I am embarrassed to say that I had no 10 year goal or plan. I was so stuck in the present trying to get through my work that it slipped my mind. Thanx to the Van der Merwe’s I realized my 10 year goal, it has something to do with a big house, painted in white from top to bottom. A kitchen that has cupcakes, sugar and spice, and all things nice, because that is what little girls are made of! And a garden the size of a football field with ponies and puppies and rabbits and whatever little kids love to play with. Well this is a dream at present, so to anyone interested in investing in my marvelous ideas, give me a call! LOL! But again, thank you Van der Merwe’s for being my inspiration.

This gorgeous couple had a stunning wedding in Frankfort in the Free State. Their wedding was the happening of the day! I arrived in Frankfort, most of the little shops closed, but the hairdresser, open especially for Anja and her bridesmaids. The guesthouse fully booked by their guests.Everything so calm and relaxed, until I had to leave for the church: This was definitely Toyota valley, I left my key next to my camera for a second, and only once we wanted to leave for the church, I realised it is not there anymore. After every person in the guesthouse helped me search we finally found the key, another Toyota lover thought it was his key. I must say, I panicked! Anja was so relaxed and eventually we where on time anyway. Off to the beautiful stone church which was the perfect venue for them to say their "I do's"

Cornelia & Jaco Wedding - Morrells

On a perfect autumn day on the 8th of April 2011 Cornelia and Jaco exchanged their vows. This Romantic couple got married at the beautiful Morrells in Northcliff Johannesburg. (View more photos at Morrells here) The detail and beauty of this wedding gave me goosebumps, even the weather was to dream of. So beautiful! The vintage feeling of the overall setting made me feel like I was in France in another time period. The couple's love for each other was showing through their glowing eyes and friendly smiles, I must be honest, Cornelia was the one bride that I never once had to ask to smile, as a matter of fact, I had to ask her to intentionally look a bit serious in a few shots. Leani Maternity Shoot

Leani is one of my very best friends. I know her from school and I photographed her and Neil's wedding day. What was most important to me in her maternity shoot, was to capture her and her surroundings to make the photos even more personal. And I thought I'd share my thoughts on why to shoot in your clients own environment and to include things, places etc. that have important part in their lives, in their photos. Firstly, Leani has been a swimmer since school and she is currently a teacher at a high school close to her home, hence the green school board and the costume incorporation. I know many people don't feel comfortable with their homes because as with all homes, there is always something that is not yet finished or right. But, we as photographers look from a different point of view. I for instance used things that caught my eye eg. the red door and Leani's red kettle, their dog Duke and the oak tree outside their house. So when booking a shoot, thinking studio is the way to go, always consider this; your home, or the venue you chose because it has importance to you, archives a bit more than just yourself. In a studio you can get beautiful facial expressions, but with the atmosphere of your home in the background, you get an extra dimension to your photos. For instance, Leani might look back at these images in 10 years and think, " wow! Duke was still a puppy there, the oak tree in front of our house is twice the size and our red door is now blue." Those images have more nostalgic reference to them. And also tells a little bit more about the person. Yes I have a studio and multiple backdrops but they don't excite me half as much as incorporating spaces, objects, animals and people that are close to my client. I am so excited to photograph Jude's newborn foto's, we are awaiting her birth, she was supposed to be here yesterday already, come on Jude we cannot wait anymore!

Rob and Lisa got married at the beautiful Glenburn Lodge in Muldersdrift. Their day was filled with a lot of love, laughter and excitement. Their love for each other is so expressive, and I loved it because it shows on their photos. I was also amazed be their best man Tony's speech. It was fun and spoke a lot about the couple. I just love this quote he used form Terry Pratchett: "There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world. There are those who, when presented with a glass that is exactly half full, say: this glass is half full. And then there are those who say: this glass is half empty. Meet Nolene and Hercules. They are a beautiful couple who approached me to take their wedding pics and decided to do an engagements session with me so they can feel more comfortable on their wedding day. I can definitely recommend this to all couples. It is a way to learn to know your photographer and takes a bit of stress off you on the wedding day, especially if you are a little camera shy. Not that these two where camera shy at all, they where pro's. I had a blast with them and after 2 hours we decided we should probably stop with the photos. Meet the Jooste girls! They are all South Africans that moved to the USA 14 years ago. Now they have grown and are all very successful in their careers. Marilee is still at school, studying the performing arts. Elsie (Mom) is a successful artist whom has sold her work worldwide have a look at her website. Tanya manages some stores and she's really good at HR. She could be an agent any day, she organizes anything in minutes and she was basically our tour guide on our road trip to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. Yolandi works with children and she is also a pilot. How diverse is this family! I just loved photographing them. Thanks all of you for allowing me to do this shoot, it was so special. Travel Diaries - Hollywood

Ok so on the 11th & 12th of Feb we went shopping, until we dropped! On the 13th we where off to Hollywood. Tannie Elsie was our tour guide for the day. She introduced us to some of her friend whom we had lunch with and Adele Heydenrich took us on a trip through the neighborhood and showed us all the Celeb houses in her cabriolet. By the way, Charlize Theron has a beautiful house, well what we could see of it, because security is very strict. We started off at Jepotle, again Mexican food, mmmm! And we couldn't spot any celebs so we started to do a photo shoot in one of the alleys and pretended that we where famous! You can view shots of Rensche, Elsie and Etienne here, but to view more shots and ones where I'm actually in, have a look at Rensche Mari's blog. She took some awesome shots! After doing the walk of fame, we started to play the "double ganger" game. We scored points by finding ordinary people on the street that look like a famous person. This was so much fun we cried of laughter after a while. Hey we spotted dopple ganger; Jackie Chan, Fred Durst, Jack Sparrow and a few others. Ha-ha!

We where sure that someone very famous was in this car!

After not spotting famous people we pretended to be famous ourselves hence 007 Etienne.

Travel Diaries - Los Angeles

For the next week I will be blogging about an awesome trip I did in February with quotes from my travel diary as things progressed. I'm so excited to share this, as many of you know it has been my dream to go to the USA since my grandmother travelled there when I was 10.

"8 February 2011 around 9:30 pm: Enjoying a drink at a little cafe in duty-free with my lovely husband at O.R Thambo International, before boarding our flight to London Heathrow. We've received so many messages from family and friends wishing us a safe journey. I have been praying to do this trip for 3 years now and my prayers where answered. My God is an awesome God!"

"9 February 2011 9:38 am. Londo Heathrow. Listening to Klopjag & Koos Kombuis on our iPod, sharing the earphones. Trying to finish a clients wedding book over a latte from Starbucks. 9:41 We've just spotted Hilda from 7de Laan's dopple ganger (lookalike). 9:50 Getting ready to board our AA plane to LAX. Hopefully I will finish the book on the plane."

9 Feb 16:00 We arrived at LAX and took a shuttle to Tannie Elsie's house where we where greeted with friendly smiles and yummy food. The next morning we got up quite early, still haven't adjusted to the new timeframe. We started in good spirits by putting on our trainers to go for a walk in the park. We did a lot of walking on our trip, in malls and in the neighborhood to see as much as possible.

Regarding food I have just one word: Mexican! I looooooved the Mexican food in the USA. It was one of the healthier options and very tasty. Here we enjoyed some Margaritas the best I've had!

On the 5th of February I photographed a magnificent wedding at the beautiful Chez Charlene outside of Pretoria. This beautiful and elegant wedding venue was the perfect match for the gorgeous couple Motlatsi & Kopano. There where so many inspirational people at this wedding including the groom Motlatsi whom is a singer & song-writer and sang the most beautiful song to his wife Kopano. And Kopano off-course, has written her own book called "Coconut". What was most inspirational was their love for each other. The grooms speech triggered my thoughts and made me realise that love is such a powerful thing. Some of his words: "with love, anything is possible, with Kopano anything is possible and most of all with God anything is possible!"

As many of you know I'm currently in the US attending the WPPI in Las Vegas and extending my knowledge whilst networking. I have never seen so many photographers ever. Anyway, I had to set some time aside to do this blog because it is just so exciting! Lindsay and Kevin are such wonderful people. Both are successful in their careers and they love sport. They also really love each other and you can see that a mile away. Their wedding was held at the beautifully elegant Westcliff Hotel in Johannesburg. The wedding was beautiful and there was a lot of attention to detail. I love it when clients have interesting things at their wedding. Lindsay and Kev, as she calls him, had a beautiful sweets table and gallery of family couples to name but a few details. The old vintage car also added to the feel of the day and I had a blast photographing them in it.

How beautiful is San-Marie? I always play this little game by myself when photographing my clients. I always try and establish which famous person they look like. To me San-Marie, especially when we did the couch photos, looked a bit like Penelope Cruz. But that is just me. I love doing maternity shoots, the girls are always so relaxed. The Muller Family - Corne turning 1

The Muller family celebrated their son Corne's 1st Birthday in November 2010. And to capture this special time they asked me to do a shoot of them. We decided to do the shoot with a construction feel and loads of earthmoving equipment. Reason being that Jaco (Corne's dad) works in this industry. It is part of the three of them. I loved it because bright colors excite me! We had a blast between a lot of rubbish, mud and very large machinery! Also, at the tender age of 1, Corne dIscovered that he has emotions, and he expressed all of them in this shoot! LOL!

In 1990 I had my first day at school, grade 1. Opposite me sat Christy, so cute! And for twelve years we went to school together. I was honored when she asked me to photograph her wedding. And Mario, well , I have never met a groom so excited about wedding photos ever! I absolutely loved photographing them. Their beauty and love for one another shines, fireworks! There was a beautiful gal they called her Suzelle. A mommy to be, and always a shoulder to you and me. I was the lucky one, chosen to be, the one to archive the.

Excitement streamed through our blood. 100,200,300 photos had flood.

As the session went by all shyness had fly.

All we did was have fun, memories captured under the sun.

At the end of the day: photos, make-up and a lot of play.

Very soon a beautiful baby will be born. What shall we call her.....

Shooting families are really one of my favorite commissions. I love the fact that I'm archiving a memory that would someday have so much meaning to these youngsters, they just don't know it yet. I remember as a child always going through my parents albums and asking questions, and boy did I love it when there was a picture of me. Today I treasure all those old images, it reminds me of so many good memories, how fortunate are we, to be able to catch a moment that can last forever.

It was a sunny and bright day, the kids enjoyed themselves because we where in a park with animals and an old steel playground. The Pieters family was a lot of fun, always keen to do what I asked them to, and hence the beautiful shots we got. I hope to photograph this family until these images look 50 years old. Hint-hint! Nico & Lauren - Wedding

On the day I met Lauren and Nico, I was already excited to do their wedding. Her beautiful smile and eyes immediately made me feel welcome. And Nico made me feel like the best photographer in the world, he kept telling me what a big fan they are of my work, and that they are sooooo excited about being photographed by me. I really appreciated this. And over coffee we discussed all our ideas and the plan for the photo session.

I ask all my couples the same thing, how did you meet and what do you. I found it very interesting that they run a company together, and they are very good at it. That is something they need a reward for, because this is something that is usually difficult for couples. They claim that working together is what makes their business and relationship so successful.

Their love for each other shows especially when they look at each other. I can see that Nico knows his wife is a jewel, he treats her like a precious stone. I really enjoyed your wedding! Thank you for choosing me to capture your stunning day.

Bannister & Elize Anniversary Shoot

Bannister & Elize are two of my husband and my very good friends. We've known them for a few years, and Bannister was our MC at our wedding, thanx again Ban. This shoot was scheduled in honor of their 5 year anniversary, which is only in a few months, but we had to do the shoot because we all have quite hectic schedules. I found it so cute that they couldn't keep their hands off each other. Love is definitely all around them, and it shows in the pictures. Thank you for asking me to do your pics, I had a blast! The Van Schalkwyk Family

I refer to this family as the Van Schalkwyk family, but for quite a long while that has been incorrect, because nowadays they are divided into the Mullers, Jouberts, Roberts and Van Schalkwyks. But I still refer to all of them as the Van Schalkwyks, because that is how I got to know them.

My parents are neighbors to them, and we have been friends for a very long time. I still remember our holiday at the beach, all the kids similar ages except for my eldest brother whom was 7 or 8 at the time, and my youngest brother about 9 months old who couldn't make the trip because of the Malaria threat. Dolf and Philip enjoyed fishing, and I'm sure that is where Dolf caught his first fish. Marthinus accidently pinched my brothers toe on the back of his dads bakkie, and whilst Marie, Diana and I where dreaming about our boyfriends, whom we've married by this stage, our parents where playing Rummicup and preparing delicious food. Snorkling, jogging, and Marie's red trainers are but a few things I remember from that stunning holiday.

It was not only the holiday, but many other experiences. We all grew up, we are all hapily married and most of us have children. I think Oom George and Tannie Marita is very blessed to have so many beautiful children and grand children. I am blessed to know you!

There is a very nice story attached to this particular blog post. I once photographed a beautiful wedding, whilst I was shooting the guests at this wedding, in my photo-booth, a very cute couple steps in and smiles. Without even trying to create a masterpiece, I shot this gorgeous picture, and guess who was on it? Juan and Yolanda. I remember sub-conciously saying, I have to shoot this couple in the future! You can imagine my surprise the day I met with Juan and Yolanda to book their wedding photos! Yay! Another very interesting story about their wedding is that out of the guests, there must have been 20 people that I photographed in the past, 3 weddings, 2 maternity shoots, 3 couple shoots and a matric -farewell shoot. How awesome! I felt so honored, and boy did we have fun with the photos.

The Grobler Family is such a fun and loving family. We went to a beautiful fun park for their family photos session. Their photos came out so beautiful and pretty really because they are a stunning little family, they played together and really enjoyed themselves. The park was also the home of some really interesting animals, real wolves, goats, rabbits, ducks and many more. The train took us on a venture around the park so we could experience everything. I was so excited when they commissioned me to photograph one of their events. This was an Italian theme for one of their clients Birthday parties. I photographed Pillip and Monica's wedding in August on a very warm winters day. It was absolutely beautiful. A bush wedding at the Vaal river, with wild animals around us and the river right next to us.

I met Phillip and Monica through one of my very good friends Leani, and I still remember how they told me how they officially met. They went on a canoe trip down the Orange River... how romantic. I myself later went on the exact same trip, and it is absolutely beautiful. I could understand how anyone could fall in love on this tour, it is out of this world.

Knowing the two of them, made my work so much easier, we had fun with the photos from the word go, and I was able to see their love for one another in every shot. Thanx guys, you where great!

The following pictures are merely a few I chose from a lot of kids that I photographed on the day. I couldn’t choose the best ones, they where all great, so I closed my eyes and clicked on a number and chose a few of that particular child’s pictures. They where all stunning! The Teacher of Nuuskierige Agies commissioned me to take her school pics, she didn’t want the traditional: sit in front of a backdrop and smile at the camera. Luckily, I only do natural light photography and immediately said yes. And boy was it fun, not to mention hard work! 12 kids in half a day is no walk in the park, and I spent individual time with each one of them. It was great!

Meet Elfreda. I met her through a very good friend, and have since become a bit of a family photographer to them. I have done weddings, maternity and family portraits for their family, and I feel honored. Elfreda has her own style, fashion and interior wise, very simplistic, modern and clean, and it suits her so well. I decided to bring the architecture of her home as well as decor and her wardrobe together, and it was a great success. Todays post is a celebration of friendship, old friends and new ones. I can honestly say, during my life I have met the best friends ever. Sometimes we loose touch because of work and little time, but I always keep them in my heart, and when we see each other again, it feels like we where never apart.

My trip to Cape Town was so overwhelmingly exciting because I got the chance to spend some time with my new friend and amazing photographer Lizelle Lotter, whom from the first phone conversation that we ever had, felt like we knew each other since forever. And also catching up with one of my best friends from school Estelle.

These images are a little compilation I put together about my short trip with it's many memories. And to say thank you to Lizelle for being a great hostesss, and Estelle for taking off from work to meet with me. You guys are great!

Unfortunately my GPS wouldn't charge that day, so my travels where limited, but the Nook Eatery was just around the corner and Lizelle and I had some lunch there. It was sooooo pretty!

Whilst I was traveling around Cape Town and Stellenbosch, I was told about a very nice little place that sell old furniture and collectibles. I was immediately enticed and went there. I got to the barn 5 minutes before they closed, but the manager was more than willing to give me an extra 10 minutes to spend in his store. For those of you that know me, you'd know I love old stuff. I have this strange fascination with it, that I even keep a stack of old letters from my Grandmother, I will never read them, just in respect, but they look so beautiful on my chimney stacked on-top of each other and fastened with a piece of string. So this collection of images excited me a lot! I call this compilation the "Grainy Collection", because I don't like using flash and the natural light inside this warehouse wasn't as bright as I would have liked it to be, so I decided to up my ISO and zjooosh them up with grain.

Meet the Du Preez family. Bjorn and Matts are twins, Mom, Marike, is an artist and interior decorator and Dad, Cobri is a pro- tennis coach. What an interesting combination. Nicoleen has been a very good friend and client since I started my business. She is the reason that I have become their family photographer, and not just close family, but extended family as well. I decided to zjooosh up the shoot with some vintage flair. The pram in these shots is a real 1930's vintage pram that I bought from a very good friend. The combi was given to me for the day by someone I have never met before, but he is good friends with my hubby. I drove around town with this combi from one shoot to the next, felt like a real hippy. And guess which song stuck in my mind? " Oh I wish a was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair....." I had a blast. And yes there are more combi shoots to follow.

This is Kaitlyn, she is the grand daughter of one of my very good friends Fran, we go to art together. I could so relate to Kaitlyn and her grandmother Fran, they have a similar relationship to me and my grandmother. It felt like we were family on the day of the shoot. Lounize is a beautiful model,artist and soon to be beautician. I had such a great day with Lounize's shoot, we went on a little road trip to a little village-like town, not far from Springs (Believe it or not.) And wherever we drove we stopped to take shots. We had to rush back to my studio to do the final shots, because we went way over time, and oops! Lounize got a speed fine :( But nothing spoilt our day, we had great fun, it was as if we where friends before we even met. This is what makes my job so much fun. Enjoy Lounize, at last!

How cool is this outfit, it's a combination of all my favorite colours. I love it.

We drove past a little antique shop and immediately it caught our attention. I love antiques and for those of you that know me, know that my house is filled with them. They add interest to a photo, just look at all the lights in the background.

I call these shots the "80's Pop" shots, and they do have a bit of a RaRa ooh-lala, feel to them.

Some of you will remember Adriaan & Kryska from their engagement session. I have to say, I had even more fun photographing them on their wedding day. What I think helped the most was the fact that they allowed for photos before their ceremony, this gave me an extra 2 hours! Woohoo! We explored an old barn, with loads of interesting props. I got completely carried away, and so did they. I have to say thanx to Kryska's uncle, he was our driver, and played the most awesome songs from his Mercedes, while we took the pictures! I enjoyed it so much!

How sweet is this, Adriaan held on to the bouquet for his wife, until one of her bridesmaids collected it.

I could do something without the particular equipment that I thought I needed. This does not mean that I don't need a fisheye lens for certain other stunts that I want to do. Will blog some of those pictures after the competition. So, I got to Sonja's house, and was I impressed by the weekend arts she and her two daughters did, you can see them in the background of some of the photos, beautiful cement casts. This excited me and I did almost the whole shoot in front of this amazing wall. I always love the old stuff, it has so much more character, and can really ad to the ambience. Meet Melanie. Melanie called me a few days before she had to go into hospital, completely forgot about the photos! I immediately booked her without noticing it was on my birthday! This was a real special day! From the moment I met the Liebenberghs I realised what a close family they where. The kids faces bloomed every time mom or dad spoke, they really look up to their parents. Meet Shereen, she's such a fun person with her own style, we had soo much fun with her wardrobe! I know I have an obsession with photographing people and old cameras, but it seems that personality escapes the moment they are handed a camera. Since I can remember I've had a fetish with paper, little books, photos, colored papers, notebooks anything with paper and beautiful printing caught my eyes. Today still, my collections have grown and I just can't get enough. I've always wanted to do my own stationery brand that I could sell, not there yet but, I now have multiple products that I can sell to my clients with my work on it. They now enjoy beautiful photo books with their own pictures, canvasses and prints. And I have to say I have a lot down my sleeve, soon I will have beautiful cards and a whole lot of stationery to your disposal. Soon!

My Birtday

Since my “Mad Hatters Tea Party” last year, I decided, there is no reason to feel depressed for getting older, we might as well celebrate it! And I’m going to do this every year. I have suddenly realised that I love to play hostess

So this year I invited my friends to celebrate with me in true French Provence style. I just loved it! My main objective was to let my friends know what an important role they play in my life. They are the ones that keep me motivated, they inspire me, make me laugh, and are always there to give advice and support. December Holiday 2009

I love holidays, who doesn’t, but the ones with our friends are always filled with fun and enjoyment. We went to the picturesque Heralds Bay for 9 days. Our very good friends Neil and Leani invited us with them and wow did we have fun. They took us to all their specials spots.

Halfway through we stopped in the Karoo at Dessert Dew lodge. A little haven. Our hostess, Erika, opened her own guesthouse here, on their farm where her husband farms with Angora goats.

If you are ever traveling through the Karoo, you have to stop by. Contact Erika for any information.

After arriving in Heralds Bay, our friends took us to a private Hippy beach called Notzi. This beach is so secluded and quiet, but definitely a must experience. A beautiful picturesque surrounding with seven castles

A few hundred meters away lies a gorgeous lagoon, the guys didn’t hesitate, they went bass fishing and we had to literally drag them away.

And we had to go wine tasting at Tickled Pink.

When I opened my studio door, my jaw dropped and I had to make myself stop staring due to the lack of professionalism. When I started to edit Nelichea’s photos, I didn’t stop until they where done. Meet Colette, with her smile she can achieve anything! Believe me, she is my sister-in-law and has never ever gotten a no for an answer when she smiles. But who can resist. What a pleasure it was to do her maternity kiekies. This was such a great time in her life, a true gift, and we had to capture that.The famous wall, almost all the photos I had ever taken in front of this wall, has been a success.

This was a day that many photographers dream of. Not only did I have the most stunning people to photograph, but my prayers where also answered: The clouds created a giant soft box that made the lighting perfect!

Simon and Carmen’s entourage must have been the most supportive team I have ever worked with. The girls where great, always there to assist and help Carmen. And the guys where actually following us with umbrella’s and drinks. How convenient. Thank you sooooo much!

I remembered reading an article of Angelique recently; where she mentioned the one thing that she missed most is her dancing. When we met up to do some profile shots of her, she wore the most beautiful ballet pumps, we both decided that this is a must do in the shoot.

17:00 in the afternoon. While most of you know Angelique as the actress we all see on TV everyday, I know her on a different level. We’ve been friends since we where 12, and sometimes rivals at art. We both however pursued our dream and are now living it. I absolutely love my job, on this particular day I spent time with one of my best friends, whilst being at work. Just another day at the office! LOL! Watch this space, more photo shoots with Angelique coming soon.

I’m sure this is what it felt like for photographers who interviewed Marilyn Monroe. Angelique doesn’t smoke, she did it specially to add to the character of the photos. How is that for devotion.

Is it just me or do you also see Hollywood in her eyes?

Amalia Studio Session

I know I’m hammering on this shoot, but I really did surprise myself with all the versatile images I got from Amalia. First there where the French shots, then the playful studio shots, and last but not least, the more serious ones.

The following pictures where Amalia’s inspiration. She brought me her favorite fashion shots and I had to capture similar shots with similar atmosphere. This put me on the spot and made me sooo nervous, but in the end, I’m glad she put me out of my comfort zone and pushed me. I now also like my dramatic side. and think I will do a few more of these in the future.

After driving around Springs trying to find the location where we where gonna start Amalia’s shoot, she finally arrived. I felt so bad for her driving this far to come take her pictures, but this venue was made for her. We shot her French pictures at the beautiful Le Jardin in Springs, not far from my studio. It seemed as if it was her home, she was so relaxed in this atmosphere, we didn't even realize there where other people around us, it was our little space, almost heaven that's how beautiful it is. Amalia is a classic!

In January I got a phone call from Amalia, I didn’t immediately know whom I was speaking to, but the voice sounded sooooo familiar. The moment she introduced herself, I realised who she was, the beautiful actress from my favorite Afrikaans soap opera! I must be honest, I couldn’t help myself, but when I realised why she was calling me, I air-punched! Not at all embarrassed to say so, I was thrilled that she wanted me to take some photos of her.

I met Kryska & Adriaan through old clients. They where such a great couple, and from the first day I met them I was excited to take photos of them. Kryska has this bubbling personality and makes you feel happy at all times.

They immediately decided to do an engagement session with me after they booked me as their wedding photographer. And I was thrilled. We use the beautiful Le Jardin in Springs as our venue.
